Placement Of The Hands

Immediately after the takbeer is said and the hands are raised, your right hand should be placed over your left hand and they should rest on your chest. The right hand may either rest on the left hand, or grasp hold of the left hand; both are correct. The right hand can be placed over the left hand, or rested on the left arm, before the elbow.

This is the way of the prophets (peace be upon them), and this is what the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) enjoined upon his companions. The arms should not be left hanging at the sides.

The right hand should be placed on the back of the left hand, wrist and forearm.

It was narrated that 'Abdullāh ibn Mas'ood said:

"The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by me, and I was putting my left hand on my right. He took hold of my right hand and put it on my left." [Ibn Mājah: 811]

Narrated By Tawoos :

"The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to place his right hand on his left hand, then he folded them on his chest in prayer." [Abū Dāwood: 759]
